I would seriously consider going with a Socket 939 motherboard and Athlon 64. The Socket 754 is about dead. Try the Chaintech VNF4. Of course, you'll have to change Athlon 64s (maybe the 3500+). The MoBo's also PCI-Express, because AGP won't be around next year. You'll also need to get a 24-pin connector Power Supply for that board.

yes
all the tens of millions of AGP pc owners will either buy a new motherboard and video card to go with it or not bother to upgrade at all
brilliant thinking

and why go back 2 pages to answer a question i already answered?

So now.... Do i need a 24 pin connector cable for the mobo? It seems like i needed more cables than i thought. And no, im not gonna switch mobos, pay 100 bucks more for a better cpu, or get pci express. AGP Rocks. any other little things i need?
Oh ya, is socket 754 dead? I really wanna know, but i dont plan on upgrading much, but i want to know if it is dead, cuz im not paying 800 bucks for it to be dead.
P.S= Lovitar... you got a point.... AGP Is so much still alive

Yes, 754 is pretty much dead. THere were several versions AMD brought out for 64bit to begin with. 754 and 940 i believe. ANyone correct me if I'm wrong.
AMD saw the light and brought out 939. This is like a crossbreed and will read both 754 and 940 chips or something along those lines.
ANyway, the short story, 939 is the way to go if you want the latest 64 bit AMD chips and i also believe it has better functionality too and is more compatible with a wider range of chips. If i was to go for a new board, it would be a 939 model.
As far as AGP goes, yes, it's still alive, but future proof is PCI Express. It's the new, here to stay, much faster than, AGP. AGP is like PCI. It will soon no longer be used for high end graphics, as it doesn't have the grunt to cope with the future graphics systems, and will no longer be implemented into mainstream home user mobo's.
So, if you want a system that is going to do what you want now for a little cheaper and last you several years, go with AGP. If you want the ability to go with faster graphics in a few years without the need for a new Mobo, go with PCI Express, which will last you more years, spend a little more on the board and card and just reduce the amount you spend on some of the other items.
Either way, you will have an awesome machine but it's all about the money and what you are willing to pay for.
Are you willing to paid for the grunt now and pay more later, or pay a little more now so you don;t have to pay anymore for a lot longer to come.
If i hadn't already upgraded my system a year or so ago, before AMD got it's 64bit system going, i would be doing what i just said.
939, PCI express and Stonking PCIe Graphics card.

1.) THE PSU HE SELECTED IS FINE: Ones with the new pin-sets come with adapters if required.
2.) AGP IS FINE: AGP graphics cards will still be produced for at least two years yet, AGP is going nowhere until PCI-E does something revolutionary (and don't mention SLI/Crossfire, that was done back in the 3DFX days.)
3.) SOCKET 754 IS FINE: AMD are planning to stop producing Socket 754 processors, but not until like the fall. Even then, places who sold them previously will still have tons of them in stock to get rid of. There is nothing wrong with Socket 754.
Stop confusing the man, the "final" list he showed us at the top of the page was a very good PC and will be quite future-proof for him too. I wish Termite were here to give you all a verbal slap to the face.

Okay, the parts are set, they are the same as the "FINAL COMPUTER PARTS" above. So, presuming I dont have any cables going over from my old system except for the floppy drive and the floppy drive cable, which ones would i have to buy? Look at my parts also before answering, as some of those parts may have the cables, but im confuzored about these cables. If i need to buy more cables, can you give me the links to the cables in Newegg.com? Thanks!
P.S.- I finally got a grasp of where everything goes in my case, i am set to buy and build just except for these cables.

Motherboards usually come with two or more IDE cables (with two connectors each, that means up to four HDD/CD/DVD drives), one IDE cable made for floppy disk drives, and your PSU will have all those molex connectors for them running out of the back of it.
Other than that, just follow all the instructions for all the components and you should be perfectly fine. If you have any questions during building, let us know (if you can get online, which I'd reccommend.).

Like i said before, if you are replacing current hardware and building a whole new system, and don't intend on using the older system, just remove the cables and use those. You have no reason to buy new cables as you should have everything you need in your old kit.

So i guess im not buying any cables! Thanks for telling me that the mobo contained the cables Principa Discordia, and thanks for everything you all did. (Yes, i can get online, this is my laptop, so i should be able to contact the forums if anything goes wrong. Just right after i replace its video card.....)
Wait.... when im making the desktop, i am also going to be modding a ps2 and upgrading the video card inside my laptop. Will that require any extra precautions like an Anti-Static Device? I dont think I would need one but mabye i would generate the static going from one open unit to another.

UPDATE: My parts are coming tomorrow. I just found out that my case only comes with a 350w psu. Can anyone check to see if i have enough power supply to operate the system? The parts are listed above in FINAL COMPUTER PARTS, and it says what case im getting that comes with a 350w psu and components. Can anyone help me to find out if i have enough watts in my psu for my parts?

this sounds a little late, but u could get real good deals on hds at large retail places like circuit city. about 2 weeks ago, compusa was having a sale on 160 gb hds for 30 bucks with mail in rebate. forgot what barnd though and specs. i recently got myself a seagate 200 gb hd 7200 rpm 8mb for 60 at fry's. of course if u dont live near any big retailer, that would invalidate my post.

With regards to your PSU, if the above post where you displayed all of the items you were getting and that is the case you were getting, I would print a hard copy, as it states you should be getting a 420Watt PSU with the system.
If they query and say that is not the case, you have a hard copy of there web site page.
ALso, confirm whether it's on your order details too.
They shouldn't be able to say they are selling one thing and give you something else. Or they could be trying to swap out the PSU, which has been known to happen.

Yes, i read all 1151 reviews... shocking i know. On the newegg sales page for the case, it said 420w psu. Yet everyone... and i repeat everyone in the reviews said that it was a 350w psu. Im gonna complain... even in aspire.com the case descriptions say that it is a 350w psu, but newegg advertises it as a 420w. I guess if the system doesnt work then im sending it back.

I read somewhere that they upgraded that model to a 420W PSU.

Have to agree with Principa on this one. I've had some outstanding problems with the game lately and if finally dawned on me what might be wrong (took frickin' long enuf). My PSU is only 300W, and 3 yrs old at that. Everything else is great in the system except for that. I also have a 9800 PRO. They list 300W as the minimum requirement (and I'm sure you know how to view minimums). Just think, your processor alone can require up 100W or more depending on intensity of action. Add in, sound, hard drive plus any other add-in cards and you could easily overtax your system and end up with the lovely crashes that many of us are dealing with.
Personally, an Antec TruePower 430 would be good, or even an AeroCool II 450. I personally would not recommend anything under 400 and would strongly recommend to not settle for a bargain PSU.

downgrade your card to a 5800GT OC from BFG...it'll get better performance than the XFX, it'll still be 8X AGP and 128 mb Ram....but it'll have a very very good fan instead of a POS heatsink the XFX's come with.(good choice to go with nVidia over ATI though)
you'll be better off with 512 MB Corsair XMS than you will 1GB of the ValueSelect.
